Kitchen Math

In our previous article, we told you about math for smart shopping. Now let’s move from the shopping cart to the kitchen and learn how math skills can help you with cooking.

It’s no secret that recipes require the exact amount of ingredients, and it’s better to stick to them, that is, if you want to get a delicious result. Imagine that you need to prepare a meal for 12 people, and the recipe that you’ve always wanted to try is for four people. Then you’ll need to multiply the amount of all ingredients by three. Or perhaps the recipe gives you the amount in ounces, and you don’t have kitchen scales. If you know how much a table spoon or a cup of the ingredient weights, you can easily count how much you need.

An experienced cook can do more complex kitchen math. For example, you only have 1.5 cups of milk left and you need to know how many muffins you can make and to calculate the amount of the other ingredients. In baking, the proper ratio is crucial for the outcome.

Next, we’ll tell you how to apply math skills to travel.
